Url: https://holdinghandsinc.com/carrie-hammond/Cindy LaCost
Cindy LaCost, Psy.D., is a licensed psychologist (PSY24638). She offers a wide array of assessment services for children, adolescents, and young adults, including psychoeducational, psychological, and accommodations testing in the following areas:
Executive function (i.e. attention, memory, initiative, impulse control, planning, organization, problem-solving)
Processing (i.e. sensory, auditory, visual-perceptual, visual-motor, visual-spatial)
Cognition (i.e. intelligence, speed of thinking)
Learning (i.e. oral, written, and pragmatic expressive and receptive language, math, reading)
Social development (i.e. friendships, interpersonal relationships, social development, social perception)
Behavioral adjustment (i.e. degree of compliant, age-appropriate, pro-social behavior)
Emotional adjustment (i.e. self-regulation, self-concept, mood, anxiety, personality)
Because being a parent of a child with special needs is both a gift and a challenge, she also offers psychotherapy to parents. Dr. Cindy LaCost believes this is an important and unique service, as Federal and State laws provide for the special needs of children, but not often for the emotional support and psychological health of their caregivers. She utilizes individual psychotherapy for the treatment of grief, depression, anxiety, and adjustment difficulties. Finally, she provides counseling for children, adolescents, and young adults with and without special needs to address behavioral issues, impulse control, life transitions, and anxiety and mood disorders.
Please note that counseling services may be covered through insurance, but all testing is privately funded.

Behavioral Intervention (ABA)
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a widely recognized, research-based treatment methodology for understanding and improving human behavior. Our clinical team uses scientifically proven ABA methods to bring about positive, meaningful changes in the lives of individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. ABA looks to reduce problematic behaviors and help clients develop new skills and more functional behaviors to foster the individual’s independence. Each treatment plan is tailored to the client’s specific needs, created during the assessment process. The treatment setting is determined by assessing the client’s needs, current goals, funding source, barriers, and parental involvement. Services may take place in the home, community, center, or school.A crucial component of our program is parent involvement.
Url: https://holdinghandsinc.com/home-center/Adaptive Skills Training (AST)
The Holding Hands Adaptive Skills Program addresses the practical everyday skills a child, teen, or adult needs in order to function at home and in the community. Our program targets 5 Adaptive Skills domains: self-care, communication, behavior (non-maladaptive), social skills, and play-leisure. When selecting goals, the clinical team will be aware of the individual’s limitations due to their developmental level, strengths, and individual needs. Sessions are provided within the home, community, and center. Parent training is a pivotal part of the program.Holding Hands utilizes a relationship/developmental modality when targeting adaptive domains. The modality used is Developmental, Individual Difference, and Relationship-based (Floortime™/DIR®).
Url: https://holdinghandsinc.com/pediatric-services/ast/Mental Health Services
At Holding Hands, we are dedicated to supporting and empowering you through a collaborative process that addresses your goals and areas of need. We believe that the primary foundation to addressing these needs is the trust that is built in the therapeutic relationship between you and your therapist. Our multi-culturally trained staff believe that there is an intimate connection between our feelings (heart ) our thoughts (Mind 🧠 ), and what we physically experience (body 🧘).
Url: https://holdinghandsinc.com/pediatric-services/mentalhealthservices/Floortime™/DIR®
Infants, children, and teens with complex developmental and learning problems, including autistic spectrum disorders, often only learn skills in an isolated, non-purposeful or non-meaningful way (e.g., memorizing scripts). They tend to have a harder time integrating these different capacities meaningfully. An appropriate intervention program must therefore, focus not on isolated skills but on the most essential functional developmental capacities. Specific skills are embedded in these functional developmental foundations. More and more studies are identifying these capacities for shared attention, intimate relating, affective reciprocity, and emotionally meaningful use of actions and ideas as the building blocks for logical and abstract thinking, including higher levels of empathy and reflections.

Modified Cognitive Behavior Intervention (M-CBI) is a client-centered program designed for TEENS AND ADULTS (AGES 15 THRU 40) WITH MILD intellectual disabilities and high-functioning individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and/or other related mental health needs, such as depression and anxiety. Identifying the mental health needs of people with developmental disabilities is crucial and often overlooked in most programs. This program is designed as a “focused approach” to behavior intervention for clients whose needs cannot be addressed through traditional counseling or standardized ABA programs that do not address mental health components. This program is client-centered and focuses on the client’s needs, strengths, and desires, and educates them about how to self-manage their own emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. The program utilizes evidence-based practices and is structured and goal-directed.

Throughout history, cultures have used music to reflect thoughts and experiences. Music has been a voice and continues to exist as an influential aspect of human life. Music therapy is the clinical use of music to facilitate therapeutic interventions that accomplish individual goals. Music therapy embraces the motivating and structural properties of music to create an effective and rich learning environment.
Url: https://holdinghandsinc.com/pediatric-services/mt/Social Skills Training
Holding Hands has developed a social skills training (SST) program for young children between 3 and 6 years old with mild developmental deficits who can function in a group with 4 to 8 other peers. In a developmental approach to social skills training, play is used as the primary medium for intervention, especially with younger children. Play has long been recognized as the context for developmental growth for children with social and developmental challenges
Url: https://holdinghandsinc.com/pediatric-services/social-skills-training/Social Skills Developmental Groups
Holding Hands’ social skills program provides children and teens with special needs social experiences in the center and the community. Because children learn through play, Holding Hands’ social skills program focuses on learning social skills through “hands-on” experiential play. Holding Hands Pediatric Therapy and Diagnostics has developed a curriculum of strategies, games, and activities that we incorporate into our social skills groups. Our groups at Holding Hands are structured and “affect” based; content does not have as much importance as the processes. Processes may include turn-taking, maintaining eye contact with peers, referencing, negotiating, following others’ lead, attending, affect, engagement level, waiting, and self-regulating in a group setting. The therapist will address processes depending on individual goals and group needs.

Holding Hands provides the Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS), a 14-week evidence-based social skills intervention for high-functioning, motivated teens in the 7th-12th grades who are interested in learning ways to help them make and keep friends. During each group session, teens are taught (skill building) important social skills and are given the opportunity to practice those skills throughout the week. Parents are required to attend and participate in weekly parent training and support sessions facilitated by PEERS trained clinicians. Research shows that parental support and training is key!
Url: https://holdinghandsinc.com/peers-social-skills-groups/SEEDS: Adult Social Skills Group
Holding Hands has developed an adult social skills relationship-based program centered on the following 5 principles: Self-Advocacy, Empowerment, Education, , and Support. S.E.E.D.S. is a 16-week comprehensive social skills training program designed for high-functioning adults between the ages of 19-40 with social-emotional deficits. In addition to the 16-week curriculum lessons, each client will have the opportunity to meet with his/her therapist for a total of 6 one-on-one sessions to work on his/her individual needs, individual goals, or areas of concern.
