Bios - VCA Thornton Animal Hospital
Lucia Miller
Dr. Miller practiced veterinary medicine in the Denver area since 1985. The majority of that time, Dr. Miller had been with All Creatures Animal Hospital which became part of the Firehouse family in 2006, and continued on when Firehouse became part of the VCA team. Lucia and her family have lived in Thornton since 1989. She is very happy to be a part of the VCA Thornton team and serve the community in which she lives. Dr. Miller received her MA in counseling from the University of Colorado and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University. During her senior year, she was inducted into the Honor Society of Veterinary Medicine at CSU. Dr. Miller is an active member of AVMA, CVMA and the DAVMS. Dr. Miller lives with her husband Jeff and their daughter Sarah. The Miller family enjoys the company of their two dogs; Fancy and Pepper and cat; Stewie.
Pete DeTolve
Dr. Pete DeTolve graduated with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. Upon graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Pete was accepted into an internship program at VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center where he practiced for an intense year under the guidance and supervision of board certified specialists. After completion of his internship, he moved to Colorado where he practiced as a daytime emergency veterinarian at VCA Douglas County Animal Hospital. Dr. Pete takes special interest in emergency medicine, surgery, and dentistry. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, their four dogs, two cats, and four chickens. He is an avid snowboarder, and enjoys anything that has to do with the outdoors.
Katie Powers
Dr. Katie Powers grew up in Massachusetts with the desire to become a veterinarian as long as she can remember. She attended Williams College where she was a catcher on the softball team and graduated with a BA in Biology. Dr. Powers received her DVM degree from Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, where she graduated as a member of the Phi Zeta Honor Society. She then moved to Denver to complete an intense, year-long rotating internship program in small animal medicine, surgery, emergency and specialty practice at VCA Alameda East Animal Hospital.
Dr. Powers grew up with Golden Retrievers and her family has two, Marley and Meadow, back in New England. She also has two cats, Gus and Rogers. Dr. Powers enjoys being outdoors, trivia, and sampling all the food, drink, and sights that Colorado has to offer.
