Steve Underwood
Steve Underwood is what you would call a “true lifetime builder”. He started at age 17 working for a large development company, learning everything from the ground up. Steve has owned his own construction company, as well as being manager and the superintendent of several other construction companies. He has been involved in building an excess of over 2000 custom homes in his years in the business. He always sets his goal on pleasing the homeowner, knowing that this is probably the single largest investment of their lifetime. He takes that responsibility very seriously. He is proud to be chosen as the one to build it.
Laura Underwood
Laura Underwood has been a decorating and designing for over 25 years, working with many Georgia builders in designing interior and exteriors of custom homes, along with many parade and model homes. She has worked in several decorating centers and owned her own lighting and design showroom. Her 33-year marriage to Steve has taught her a lot about the building process and this complements and completes her design work. And with that said, Steve and Laura have been happily married for over 33 years with two grown children and three grandchildren.
Meet the Doctors
Dr. Fred Schroeder
Dr. Fred Schroeder grew up in a small town in rural Ohio. After graduating high school, he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California at Davis. In 1978, he graduated from the University Of Kentucky College Of Dentistry.
As a Big Blue fan, he decided to remain in Kentucky where he spent a year in Middlesboro, KY before settling in Lexington. He has been in practice for over 35 years. He is skilled in general dentistry and prides himself in staying current with the most advanced techniques and equipment available. His extended studies include orthodontics, implants, cosmetics and T.M.D.
Although most of his time is spent at the office, Dr. Schroeder also enjoys skiing, soccer, running, travel, lawn and garden work and whatever his kids are currently involved with. His wife, Carol, is the office manager for the practice. While not working on projects for our office she works at the VA as an audiologist. His children, Tali, Thad and Katie, take up most of his time outside the office. Tali is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and is currently the owner of a home improvement company. He and his wife, Beatrice, are the proud parents of Dr. Schroeder’s first grandchild, Aliksandros. Thad is a graduate of the University of Kentucky’s College of Dentistry and has recently joined Fred in practice. Katie is a recent graduate of DePauw University and is currently studying in Indonesia as a 2013 recipient of a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship

Dr. Thad A. Schroeder graduated from the University Of Kentucky College Of Dentistry in his hometown of Lexington, Kentucky. While at the University of Kentucky, he was awarded the Janet Lee Leadership award, the Class of 1967 award, Dan Seaver Memorial Scholarship and was recognized by Dr. Jeff Okeson for his achievements in the study and treatment of Orofacial Pain. As the president of the American Student Dental Association, he was a leader for students and a passionate proponent for organized dentistry. Upon graduation he began working with his father, Dr. Fred Schroeder, at Schroeder Cosmetic and Family Dentistry.
Dr. Thad is a charismatic, positive and motivated young dentist. Through his involvement in local study clubs, passion for organized dentistry and continued dedication to his profession, Dr. Thad has the education to stay current with philosophy, technology and science in the evolving world of dentistry. In particular, Dr. Thad excels at routine dental procedures and also in the treatment of orofacial pain.
Dr. Thad is married to his dental school sweetheart, Dr. Kristina Neda Schroeder. He is excited about beginning his marriage with his dental school classmate and is looking forward to starting a family. He enjoys outdoor adventure and is constantly trying new hobbies. He has two large dogs, Giselle and Bodie, that he enjoys taking to the parks around Lexington. In his spare time, Dr. Thad enjoys volunteer work and giving back to the community. He has raised money for Mission Lexington Dental Clinic and is involved in “Give Kids A Smile” events annually.

Daniel B. Spagnoli, DDS, MS, PhD
Dr. Spagnoli completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Louisiana State University (LSU) School of Dentistry and Charity Hospital in 1989. In 1991 Dr. Spagnoli became certified by The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and is a past board examiner. Following residency he entered private practice in Charlotte, North Carolina at University Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery which eventually became The Carolinas Center for Oral and Facial Surgery. While practicing in Charlotte, Dr. Spagnoli maintained academic affiliations with Louisiana State University and the University of North Carolina. The Charlotte practice became a training site for OMFS residents initially from the UNC, and then and currently from LSU. From 1990-2000 Dr. Spagnoli served as director of Oral and Maxillofacial Residency Training as Carolinas Medical Center.
In 2012 Dr. Spagnoli became the James Peltier Chairman of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and the Director of Dental School Hospital affairs at the LSU Health Science Center School of Dentistry. During his time as chair he worked to grow the OMFS department’s academic program and faculty, as well as develop new clinic and hospital relationships for the department.
Dr. Spagnoli now brings his years of private practice and academic experience to our new practice in Brunswick County North Carolina. Brunswick Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is a practice that embraces the latest technology to enhance the safety and efficacy of care. Our state of the art facility includes an Electronic Medical Record, Comprehensive Anesthesia Monitoring, Cone Beam Cat Scan Imaging, Guided Implant Surgery, High Tech surgical instrumentation, and the equipment and biologicals required for hard and soft tissue regeneration via tissue engineering solutions. In 2005 and 2006, he co-authored two award-winning papers published in the Journal of Periodontology and the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery related to Bone grafting and Bone Morphogenetic Protein. Recent articles include “Dental Implants and the Use of rhBMP-2,” coauthored with Dr. Bob Marx which appeared in the May 2011 issue of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics of North America, and was reprinted in Dental Clinics of North America the same year. Kamran Goudarzi
Kamran Goudarzi attended Boarding School in Shropshire, England at the age of fourteen. Within two years he was accepted at Alleyn’s School, an affiliate of Dulwich College, which is one of the most prestigious schools in England. While majoring in zoology, he was elected as the best anatomical dissector in his class. By the the age of eighteen, he had obtained “S” levels (honor level) in physics and chemistry and was accepted into the University of London School of Medicine.
By the age of twenty-four, Kamran had graduated with MB and BS degrees, with an MD degree from the University of London, as well as earning Licentiate of Royal College of Physicians (LCRP) and Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS). After graduation from medical school, he began preparation for his boards in general surgery for the Royal College of Surgeons in England.
Two years prior to obtaining his boards in surgery, he moved to the United States, where he did an additional five years of surgical residency. He now has over 35 years of post-medical school experience in the art of general, thoracic, vascular, laparoscopic, and both upper and lower endoscopic surgeries. During his post-graduate training, the opportunity to work with some of the most well known physicians in the world presented itself.
He spent six months in internal medicine with Dame Professor Sheila Sherlock, who has been considered one of the most knowledgeable physicians regarding the diseases of the liver. He also worked with Professor Hobbs, one of the world’s leading liver surgeons, and Professor Copeland, one of the world’s leading surgeons for the treatment of breast cancer, at MD Anderson in Texas, one of the top three cancer centers in the United States.
He started his practice in NC in 1987. He has been involved in the newest technologies as they have become available. When laparoscopy became available to general surgeons, Dr Kamran was one of the leaders. He performed the first laparoscopic repair of a hiatal hernia in the early 90s in Wilmington NC. He now has the longest and one of the largest series in our area. He was one of the original designers of laparoscopic repair of ventral hernias. His first paper was published in 1994, which eventually lead to the presentation of his paper at the SAGES meeting in Florida and later in China.
Dr. Kamran and his brother did the first laparoscopic colon resection in Wilmington. Together, they also performed the first laparoscopic liver resection in the eastern United States, which earned media attention.
Since the introduction of intravascular laser ablation, Dr. Kamran again is a leader in a new and exciting procedure. He was one of the first of four centers in the state of North Carolina to offer this technology to his patients. He has taken surgery from the operating room to the office setting with the establishment of the ScarlessVeinCare by Dr. Kamran.

As a child Chris was introduced to the power of Chiropractic care and the power of a properly functioning nervous system. His first experience came when he simply sneezed and after he could not move his neck. He received his first Chiropractic adjustment and motion was restored. A few years later, Chris began getting horrible headaches. He was involved in many sports and the traumas that he received from these activities began to take a toll on his nerve system. He saw many doctors, none of which could determine what the cause of the headaches were. He again received an adjustment and instantly his headache went away. As time went on, Chris realized that he was taking less and less of his asthma medications and eventually was no longer using his inhalers. My passion for creating delicious food started as a young boy in Nice, France at my family's restaurant. After graduating from culinary school, I moved to the United States and worked for my brother Raymond for several years at his successful restaurants in Washington, DC and in Sint Maarten . In 1996 my culinary adventures led me to the City Club of Macon and it was then I decided to make the beautiful state of Georgia my home. In a few years, I struck out on my own and opened two successful restaurants in Macon, one of which is still in operation under new ownership. Encouraged by a group of loyal friends and faithful former customers, I decided a new dining option in north Macon would be a welcome addition to the list of fine restaurants in our city.

Stephen Lewis was born and raised in Wilmington, NC. Steven W. Smith, DDS
Dr. Smith was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. As a youth, he participated in several sports such as wrestling, soccer and ballroom dancing. He also learned to play the piano which is a hobby he enjoys today. He decided that he wanted to be a dentist while he was in HighSchool. His decision was influenced by his experience getting braces. He realized how much of a difference a good smile made in his self-esteem and social life and wanted to be able to help others improve their smiles. He met his beautiful wife Kenna while in High school and was married soon thereafter. They were blessed with 3 children, Teva 20, Olivia 16, Marcus 9.
Teva is currently a Junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is pursuing a degree in Biology with a minor in chemistry, and also playing on the school's water polo team. He graduated from Dixon High School where he held the position of Senior class treasurer. While at Dixon, Teva was a student-athlete competing in the sport of wrestling while maintaining a strong GPA.

She decided on a career in dentistry while in high school after spending time in an office near her hometown. Her time at this office is where she saw the real difference that can be made in someone’s life by improving their smile.
Dr. Kuiper attended Purdue University and graduated with a bachelors degree in Health Sciences. She immediately began at Indiana University School of Dentistry and was awarded a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. She was recently married on the 4th of July and now lives in Sneads Ferry with her husband, an officer in the Marine Corps. She is excited about starting her dental career here in Sneads Ferry and getting to know people in the community. Dr. Kuiper is a member of the American Dental Association and North Carolina Dental Society. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, as well as her fur babies, Bella and Bess.

Dr. Silva was born in Recife, Brazil and moved to the United States at the age of 7. He’s been an avid athlete for his entire life and was a 3-sport varsity athlete in high school playing football, basketball, and soccer. He developed a love for traveling to new places after having the opportunity to travel the country for basketball tournaments, and still enjoys traveling as much as possible today. Dr. Silva was drawn to dentistry in high school because he had a dentist who showed compassion and kindness to individuals in need. This, along with the ability to improve the self-esteem and health of his patients, are the factors that continue to motivate Dr. Silva today.
Dr. Silva graduated with honors from Utah Valley University with a degree in Biology. He then attended the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry where he excelled in various areas of dentistry. During his time at VCU he participated in the research, was a fellowship recipient, and received an award from the International Digital Dental Academy for his work with same day CAD/CAM crowns and bridges. Dr. Silva is a member of the American Dental Association and the North Carolina Dental Association. He is passionate about continuing education and staying up-to-date on the latest innovations in dentistry.
In his free time, Dr. Silva continues to try and perfect his jump-shot and is an avid angler. He hopes to catch every species of fish in the world, and even though he knows that’s likely not possible he likes to dream big! Dr. Silva is married to his best friend Angela and they have two children, Olivia, and Max who keep them very busy. Dr. Silva and his family love living near the coast and being beach bums as often as possible!

Dr. Kamran Goudarzi
Dr. Kamran Goudarzi attended Boarding School in Shropshire, England at the age of fourteen. Within two years he was accepted at Alleyn's School, an affiliate of Dulwich College, which is one of the most prestigious schools in England. While majoring in zoology, he was elected as the best anatomical dissector in his class. By the the age of eighteen, he had obtained "S" levels (honor level) in physics and chemistry and was accepted into the University of London School of Medicine.
By the age of twenty-four, Dr. Kamran had graduated with MB-BS and MD degrees from the University of London, as well as earning Licentiate of Royal College of Physicians (LCRP) and Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS). After graduation from medical school, he began preparation for his boards in general surgery for the Royal College of Surgeons in England.
Two years prior to obtaining his boards in surgery, he moved to the United States, where he did an additional five years of surgical residency. He now has more than 40 years of post-medical school experience in the art of general, thoracic, vascular, laparoscopic, and both upper and lower endoscopic surgeries. During his post-graduate training, the opportunity to work with some of the most well known physicians in the world presented itself.
Dr. Kamran spent six months in internal medicine with Dame Professor Sheila Sherlock, who has been considered one of the most knowledgeable physicians regarding the diseases of the liver. He also worked with Professor Hobbs, one of the world's leading liver surgeons, and Professor Copeland, one of the world's leading surgeons for the treatment of breast cancer, at MD Anderson in Texas, one of the top three cancer centers in the United States
Dr. Kamran started his practice in North Carolina in 1987. He has been involved in the newest technologies as they have become available. When laparoscopy became available to general surgeons, Dr. Kamran was one of the leaders. He performed the first laparoscopic repair of a hiatal hernia in the early 90s in Wilmington, NC. He now has the longest and one of the largest series in our area. He was one of the original designers of laparoscopic repair of ventral hernias. His first paper was published in 1994, which eventually lead to the presentation of his paper at the SAGES meeting in Florida and later in China.
Dr. Kamran and his brother did the first laparoscopic colon resection in Wilmington, North Carolina and published their results in a scientific paper. Together, they also performed the first laparoscopic liver resection in the eastern United States, which earned media attention.
Since the introduction of intravascular laser ablation, Dr. Kamran was one of the first physicians and centers in the state of North Carolina to offer this technology to his patients. Dr. Sahar Amery
Dr. Sahar Amery moved from England to the United States during her high school education. Since high school she was involved in many voluntary organizations in servicing the community. She always had the passion of caring for people and knew one day she would enter into the medical field. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with minor in chemistry and premedical studies, Dr. Amery completed graduate studies in Community and Public Health education.
After completion of medical school at New York Medical College in Westchester, NY, Dr. Amery went on to complete her internal medicine residency at Albany Medical Center, Albany, NY. During her third year of residency she was chosen as one of the four junior chief residents. She then went on to become Chief Resident of the internal medicine program. Following her chief residency year, Dr. Amery completed her cardiovascular fellowship at Albany Medical Center gaining expertise in non-invasive cardiology including procedures in cardiac catherization, echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiogram, and stress testing. After completion of her cardiovascular fellowship, Dr. Amery moved back to the greater Raleigh area where her family resides and joined WakeMed Heart and Vascular. Dr. Amery was the medical director of the WakeMed Heart Failure Program. She was also the medical director of the American College of Cardiology for the acute myocardial infarction initiative program. In addition, she was the medical spokesperson for women and heart disease at WakeMed Heart and Vascular. Dr. Amery is passionate on educating women in the community on cardiovascular disease. She has volunteered her time to give countless amount of lectures on women and heart disease, the importance of knowing your risk factors and how behavior modification can change results. She interviewed with local media to raise awareness of heart disease in women.
Dr. Amery discovered the world of veins as she noticed some of her patients were suffering from varicose veins and developed venous ulcers (wounds). She decided to complete a fellowship in phlebology (veins studies) at Stonybrook University Hospital at Stonybrook, NY. She had the opportunity to train with world renowned vein specialists who are leaders in the field and board certified vascular surgeons, Drs. Antonios Gasparis and Nicos Labropoulos. During her fellowship she participated in research on venous disease that led to two publications in the Journal of Vascular Surgery.
Dr. Amery was not only the first cardiologist but also one of the very few physicians in the United States that completed a phlebology fellowship. Many of her patients have complex vein disease with difficult anatomy and she has mastered the newest techniques in vein procedures.
After completing her Phlebology fellowship, Dr. Amery practiced at a large vein center in Tyson’s Corner, Virginia. Missing her family and friends, she returned to the place she calls home, Raleigh. She opened Amery Vein and Wellness center and is devoted to treating patients with a holistic approach.
Dr. Amery lives in Raleigh and loves spending time with her family and with her dogs, peaches and Lucky. She enjoys traveling and learning about new cultures.
